See the Horseshoe Falls in Winter

Okay, let’s get the most obvious out-of-the-way first and say that you can’t visit Niagara Falls for a romantic weekend without going to see the falls, especially in the winter.

Niagara Falls isn’t the biggest, or tallest waterfalls in the world, but it’s one of the most impressive due to the sheer volume of water that pumps over it. The waterfalls itself is almost directly North of the Falls View Casino, and generates an impressive plumb of mist anytime of year.

Explore Queen Victoria Park

After you’re done enjoying the beauty of Niagara Falls, you can cross over the Niagara Parkway and explore Queen Victoria Park. The park is adorned with Christmas Lights this time of year, so if you make the trip during the early evening you’ll be sure to see a beautiful (and pretty romantic) display of twinkling lights in the trees, and water fountains.

Ride the Falls Incline Railway

From the lower station of the Falls Incline Railway, you can take a gentle ride up the escarpment to enjoy a great view of the falls, away from the cold mist.

The Railway runs all year, and is an easy way for visitors with mobility issues to travel up the escarpment without worrying about the steep incline.

Go to the Greg Frewin Magic Show

Greg Frewin was named the World Magic Awards’ Magician of the Year in 2009 and is a fun show for couples interested in a light-hearted comedic act, combined with some family friendly illusions.  The show includes dancers, exotic birds, tricks, and a great story that’ll add to your sense of romance for the weekend and give you something to talk about for weeks to come.

Located at the top of the Incline Railway, the Skylon Tower offers a breathtaking view of the waterfalls from an observation deck, as well as dining room catering to fine dining.

The Skylon Tower also houses older video games, and a fun centre for people looking to explore classic arcades in the area.

Stay in a Luxury Hotel

Niagara Falls hotels range from affordable motels, to luxury hotels from Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel & Suites to the Niagara Falls Marriott on the Falls, there are no shortage of gorgeous rooms to stay in downtown Niagara Falls (just blocks from the Falls).

During the winter season, plenty of hotels in Niagara Falls offer deep discounts for tourists traveling to the city, so be sure to check here for coupons and save up to 50%, or have plenty of extras from wine tours to dinners included in your stay.

Niagara Falls Fun Zone

One of my favourite things to do in Niagara Falls, Canada, is to enjoy the amusement games and arcade style atmosphere with a special friend. The Niagara Falls Fun Zone includes hours of entertainment:

  • Mini Putt Shipwreck Adventure
  • Niagara’s Haunted Hallways
  • Mystic Maze of Mirrors
  • Cannon Blasters
  • Time Freak
  • Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Putt,
  • Laser Maze, and
  • Laser Tag

As with most things in Niagara Falls, there’s a coupon for that … and you would be wise to grab a Fun Zone pass to save yourself up to 90% off the cost.

Cost:  $5-$20/pp (but check here for coupons and save 50%)
Time: an hour – 3 hours
Accessibility: Easy to access for most visitors, elevators available

Bird Kingdom

Visit Bird Kingdom and enjoy a little indoor time while exploring one of the largest indoor aviaries in the world.

Bird Kingdom is located along the Niagara Parkway, just past the Rainbow Bridge and offers easy parking or a simple walk from the main tourist attractions in Niagara Falls.

While  Bird Kingdom is a little out-of-the-way, it’s just a short walk from the Hersey’s Chocolate World in Niagara Falls! A perfect place to get a hot chocolate before walking the extra couple blocks and enjoying the old stone architecture of the Rainbow Bridge.

Cost:  $15/pp

The Screaming Tunnels

The Screaming Tunnels in Niagara Falls is a fairly new attraction, and one that’s designed to scare the pants off guests. Located just South of Clifton Hill, the Screaming Tunnels are a fun way to blow off a little steam with your partner.

Now, that might not be your idea of romantic things to do in Niagara Falls, but I can assure you that there are plenty of people who love a great scare, especially with a partner 🙂
