So here's Lock 1. Doesn't look like much from here, right up until a laker the length of two football fields slides through and you realize the whole thing was built to move that. This is where the climb starts, one lock at a time, all the way to Lake Erie. You're not walking the whole climb today. Go west along the parkway and I'll show you where the canal lets out into open water instead.
