Editorial standards

Ditch the Guide is a set of short guides to Ontario towns. This page says how I put them together and how to get a mistake corrected.

Who writes it

I do. Ditch is the pen name I write under, and I'm Christopher Ross. When a guide says "I", I'm describing a place I've actually visited, stayed at or eaten at. Everything else I research from public sources and write in a plain guide voice.

How I make the guides

• Facts come from official and primary sources, such as town and tourism sites and provincial data. Wikipedia is a starting point that I check against those sources.
• I open every outside link before it goes in a guide.
• Opening hours, prices and exit numbers only go in when a source confirms them.
• When a place calls itself the biggest or the best, the guide says who is making the claim, for example "bills itself as".
• Drive times are calculated from map data, and a time that appears in two guides has to match in both.

Photos and video

• Photos come from Wikimedia Commons, with the author and licence credited on the page. I don't use photos made by artificial intelligence (AI).
• Videos come from an official channel, and they only load when you choose to play them.

Corrections

If something in a guide is wrong, email me at [email protected] with the guide and the line. I'll check it against the source and fix the guide.
